Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui insisted his players failed to push themselves hard enough during Wednesday night’s 3-0 reverse at Sevilla in La Liga.

Andre Silva netted a brace inside five first-half minutes and Wissam Ben Yedder put the game all but beyond doubt before half-time as Los Blancos struggled to get going at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.

It was the Whites’ first defeat of the season and a missed opportunity to go top in Spain after Barcelona were shocked 2-1 at Leganes.

“We had the idea of pushing hard and we didn’t do it as we wanted, that’s clear,” Lopetegui said post-match.

“Sevilla were superior.

“In the league these things happen, but what we’re going to do is get up and prepare for the game with maximum intensity.”
