2:04pm – Real Madrid eighth as Man City near €1 billion assembling squad

English champions Manchester City have spent nearly €1 billion assembling their current squad – the highest figure ever recorded for a football team.

According to the latest CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post, six Premier League teams are in the top 10 spenders, with Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, Italian side Juventus and French giants PSG the only non-English sides.

Los Blancos have spent a total of €447m assembling their current squad – which puts them at eighth on the list.

11:49am – Real Madrid legend Casillas reaches Champions League milestone

Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas became the first player to participate in 20 Champions League seasons on Tuesday night.

The Porto goalkeeper reached the landmark when he started his side’s opening Group D match against Schalke in Gelsenkirchen.

Real Madrid’s players are busy preparing for the club’s kick-off in the 2018/19 Champions League, with the reigning champions getting their campaign under way at home to Roma on Wednesday night (23:00 kick-off UAE).
