13:00 – Bale was ‘angry’ at being Champions League final substitute
Gareth Bale revealed he felt “quite angry” to have been left on the Real Madrid bench for last season’s Champions League final against Liverpool, before coming on to score a brilliant overhead kick.
Wales forward Bale found himself among the substitutes in Kiev, eventually being called upon by Zinedine Zidane just after the hour and then helped turn the match around with a second-half double.
Within three minutes of his introduction, Bale had converted an acrobatic bicycle kick from Marcelo’s floated cross to put Real Madrid ahead and later added a long-range second past Loris Karius to help seal a 3-1 victory.
10:00 – Vinicius Junior continues to make a case for first-team debut
Vinicius Junior continues to make a case for first team action after scoring another goal for Real Madrid Castilla at the weekend.
The Brazilian teenager, who arrived from Flamengo over the summer, has scored three goals in two games as Castilla climbed to the top of the Segunda Division table.
His strike at the weekend was a gem, bending a superb free kick around the wall to earn Castilla all three points against Unionistas CF.
But for all his dominance for the club’s second team, senior boss Julen Lopetegui is yet to consider the 18-year-old for selection as he wants him to play more minutes and get used to the style of play in Spain.
