Thibaut Courtois set to make Real Madrid debut this weekend

Thibaut Courtois is set to make his Real Madrid debut this weekend as the European champions take on Girona in La Liga.

The £35million signing from Chelsea was not in the squad for Los Blancos’ UEFA Super Cup tie against Atletico Madrid, and then was named only as a substitute in last week’s opening league win over Getafe.

Incumbent goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who had said in the wake of Courtois’ signing that he was “as likely to die as to leave Real Madrid”, got the nod in both games, looking impressive against Getafe.

Navas and Courtois have been locked in an intense battle during training, and despite Navas’ showing last week, it seems the new signing’s turn has come.
