Real Madrid defender Marcelo believes they have enough quality to challenge for silverware despite their 4-2 UEFA Super Cup defeat on Wednesday.

The Champions League winners were beaten by their city rivals in Estonia but the Brazilian says even if there are no additions to the squad, they will be a threat.

“I’m not in charge of transfers, but, we have a good squad,” he was quoted as saying by Marca. “Even so, if someone comes in, they will receive a warm welcome.”

Los Blancos open their La Liga campaign against Getafe on Sunday and the Brazilian has urged his team-mates to bounce back strongly.

“Preseason is not an excuse but we have to change now so we can start well in the league,” he said. “Congratulations to Atletico, they deserved to win.

“It’s sad, really tough to take, but we have to change momentum now because the season is just starting. Whoever makes less mistakes wins and we were the ones who made the mistakes.”
