Real Madrid left-back Marcelo has hailed the arrival of fellow Brazilian Vinicius Junior, who was signed by the club in 2017 before joining this summer.

The 18-year-old has been described as a player for the future, but Marcelo believes his young compatriot is ready to shine already.

“He is the present of Real Madrid, he is on our team,” Marcelo told reporters at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash against Atletico Madrid.

“I was 18 when I arrived and Sergio Ramos was 19.

“He [Vinicius] is a young boy and we want to make him feel at ease and help him.

“He is the present and future of the club.

“I am happy there is another Brazilian at Real Madrid.

“He has been welcomed by everyone, he is a child almost and has a great future ahead of him.
