Luka Modric will remain a Real Madrid player and not leave the club during the summer transfer window, Lucas Vazquez – one of the Croatian’s best friends at the Bernabeu – has revealed.

The 32-year-old World Cup star has been linked with the Los Blancos exit door despite club president Florentino Perez’s insistence the former Tottenham man is more important than ever.

Inter Milan have been linked with Modric’s signature but it looks unlikely the cultured playmaker will be allowed to go anywhere, particularly after his man-of-the-match display in last season’s Champions League final.

And Vazquez has all but confirmed that.

“We are calm, we have him and I have no doubt that he will continue here,” the 27-year-old said following Real’s International Champions Cup clash with Juventus.

“You never know in football but Luka is a Madrid player and will continue to be that way.

“That’s how I feel but I’m not inside his head.”
