Michel Salgado sees no reason why Guti can’t become the next Real Madrid boss

Michel Salgado sees no reason why his former Real Madrid teammate, Guti, can’t become the next Los Blancos boss.

The hunt is on for Madrid’s next coach after the shock resignation of Zinedine Zidane – who led the club to three straight Champions League final successes.

And former Real right-back Salgado believes Guti, currently in charge of the Merengues youth team, can step into the hotseat vacated by the Frenchman.

Much like Zidane, Guti has cut his teeth working away with Real’s next generation and it has so far been a struggle for the club to attract a big name, such as Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte or Jurgen Klopp.

“It is the question that everyone asked Zidane when he came to the bench,” Salgado told EFE in London.

Michel Salgado feels his former teammate would make a great replacement for Zidane.

“When he was appointed, the vast majority of the media didn’t consider him the right option and said he had no experience. But it is impossible to gain experience if you don’t coach anyone.

“So, why not? It is the same situation: Guti has been coaching for two years in the lower categories of Real Madrid and Zidane had one [year]. “Why can’t he do well at Real Madrid?”
