Christian Panucci, Albania’s head coach has advised Real Madrid to appoint Massimiliano Allegri as their new manager.

Panucci is a former Real Madrid player and enjoyed a spell from 1996-99 during his career, at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Speaking on who should succeed Zinedine Zidane as Real’s new boss, the Italian said, “Real Madrid will still be Real Madrid without Zidane and their work has been incredible.”

“The decision surprised me, but we must respect that he has chosen the correct moment to leave.

“I think Allegri would be a very good choice because he’s a really good coach and he knows how to manage and talk to great players.

“Florentino [Perez] will know best, but Zidane’s replacement must be a coach with a great personality to manage so much talent.”

Allegri has turned down offers from Chelsea, PSG and Arsenal in his recent past to stay with Serie A champions Juve. A switch to Spain’s capital for him remains doubtful therefore.

Meanwhile, Panucci also spoke about the possibility of Brazilian star Neymar moving to play with the Spanish giants.

“Great players are meant for great teams like Madrid so we’ll see what happens,” he said.

“It may depend on Cristiano Ronaldo, who is one of the best in club history and Perez knows that he has done a very good job at Madrid.”
