Gareth Bale’s final strike snubbed in Champions League goal of the season poll

The world of football watched in disbelief as Gareth Bale scored one of the best goals of all-time to give Real Madrid the lead over Liverpool in the Champions League final.

Marcelo’s right-footed cross, lacking in flight and delivered into the top of the box was phenomenally dispatched into the back of the net by the Welshman by means of a bicycle kick.

As incredible as the acrobatic effort was, what’s perhaps even more incomprehensible is the fact that it wasn’t voted the competition’s Goal of the Season.

Instead, the much raved about strike came in third with just 12 per cent of the votes on UEFA’s website, beaten by team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo‘s own bicycle kick against Juventus (18 per cent) which took second place.

However, another Bale goal took top spot. The winger’s sumptuous volley against Borussia Dortmund in the group stages secured 19 per cent of the votes to win the poll.
