Luca Zidane: Dad told me to enjoy Real Madrid debut

After making his first Real Madrid appearance on Saturday night against Villarreal in La Liga, Luca Zidane said he tried to forget about his family’s famous name.

Los Blancos boss Zinedine handed his 20-year-old goalkeeper son the reins for the end-of-season clash against the Yellow Submarines as he opted to rest Keylor Navas.

Luca, who joined the Madrid academy as a six-year-old in 2004, has gradually progressed through the youth ranks at the Bernabeu.

“When I play I’m Luca, not Zidane,” the Frenchman said, when reflecting on his debut as the Whites conceded two late goals and surrendered a 2-0 lead in a match which ended 2-2.

“It tastes bittersweet, I’m proud to have made my debut with the best team in the world but the feeling of the draw is a bit bittersweet,” Zidane junior added.

“I’ll have to watch the conceded goals again, I tried my best.

“The day before dad told me, and said to enjoy the moment, that it’s an honour playing with the best in the world.”
