Real Madrid to increase Marco Asensio’s release clause to €500m

Marco Asensio is set to be rewarded with new contractual terms following his rapid rise to superstardom at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 21-year-old Spain international has quickly become a key part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans and recently scored in both legs of Real’s Spanish Super Cup victory over arch-rivals Barcelona.

Asensio is viewed by many as the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo’s throne in the coming years and club president Florentino Perez wants to tie down the attacker, whose worth on and off the pitch is set to grow year-on-year.

The number 20’s existing contract, valued annually at €3.5m, expires in 2022 and includes a €350m buy-out clause.

According to Marca, Real are in talks to extend Asensio’s deal until 2023, increase his salary by €1m and release clause to €500m.

The half-a-billion exit fee would place him on the same terms as the likes of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric while the famed BBC trio: Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema all reportedly have €1,000m demands stitched into their contracts.

Either way, it is a reflection of how highly Real rate the prodigious talent and that he is going absolutely nowhere.

The former Mallorca man actually signed for Real back in December 2014 and was immediately sent back to his hometown club for the remainder of that campaign – before he then flourished during a loan spell the following season at Espanyol.

As planned, Real then integrated him into the first-team picture at the start of the 2016-17 term and he hasn’t looked back since.

Already made his mark: Asensio scored in last season’s Champions League final.
