Cristiano Ronaldo says his five-match ban is “exaggerated and ridiculous” after he was sent-off during Real Madrid’s first-leg Spanish Super Cup victory in Barcelona.

The Real Madrid club legend was adjudged to have dived to win a second-half penalty and was handed a second yellow card by Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea, adding to the first booking he picked up for taking his shirt off while celebrating his goal in Real’s 3-1 win.

Ronaldo reacted to seeing red by shoving referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea and a five-match ban against him was subsequently upheld.

On Wednesday evening, the 32-year-old took to Instagram to voice his disapproval at the sanction – which sees him miss the second-leg of the clash and the start to the La Liga season.
