The institution finished top of both pools as the Al Ain Cup came to a close. A 3-0 win against Al Ain English Speaking School and a goalless draw with Al Dhafra were recorded by the seniors on Saturday, with the youngsters beating Al Ain Academy 6-2.

These successes mean they enter next year’s round of 16 as sides to be feared by competitors from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Fujairah and Sharjah.

“I am really proud of my team,” said Ponnana. “The U-14s have played really well and been a surprise package.

“The U-16s are a very good team. They gained experience of the NSL playing in Abu Dhabi last year.

“We have made good preparations for the next round and I think we can really push for the semis.”

Joining them from the U-14s section are Al Ain Academy, who finished three points behind in second.

“The team performed well this weekend, it was a tough game and we need to learn to play at our best level for the full game, rather than the second half,” said coach Jonny Dunn, who has only been with the school since August.

“The boys have made Al Ain Academy very proud by reaching the National Finals. They have played very well over the three fixtures, showing commitment, dedication to their team and displaying a great team performance.

“We are all looking forward to showing what we can do against some of the best school football teams in the country.”
