Mohamed Salah is “confident” his shoulder injury sustained in Liverpool‘s loss to Real Madrid in Saturday’s Champions League won’t hold him out for Egypt’s campaign at the World Cup.

The Egyptian star suffered the injury in the first half of the 3-1 defeat when he fell to the turf along with Madrid’s Sergio Ramos. Salah was taken off in tears and left the NSC Olimpiyskiy stadium in a sling.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp afterward described the injury as “serious”, with fears of it being a dislocated shoulder that would keep him from playing for Egypt in the nation’s first World Cup since 1990.

Salah, however, has alleviated concerns over his status.

“It was a very tough night, but I’m a fighter. Despite the odds, I’m confident that I’ll be in Russia to make you all proud,” Salah posted on social media on Sunday.

“Your love and support will give me the strength I need.”

And according to information from Liverpool’s medical staff, Egypt’s team doctor Mohamed Abou El-Ela said in a statement that the 25-year-old is only dealing with ligament damage.

Although it’s early and updates on Salah’s status will follow, Egypt appear to have dodged a major bullet.
