Liverpool star Mohamed Salah’s image rights dispute with Egypt FA edges closer to resolution

Egypt fans can rest a little easier ahead of the World Cup after Mohamed Salah insisted his image rights wrangle with the country’s FA is on the road to being resolved.

The dispute has centred on Salah’s personal endorsement deal with Vodafone and the Egyptian FA’s own telecommunications sponsor Telecom Egypt, which had been using images of the Liverpool star.

But on Sunday Salah struck a hopeful tone over social media, tweeting, ‘We were promised a solution and God willing the issue is on its way to being resolved’ before going on to thank the ‘unreal’ support from his fans.

It was in stark contrast to a message he posted earlier in the day, with a disgruntled Salah saying that ‘unfortunately the way it is being dealt with is very insulting. I was hoping the interaction would be classier than this’.

The World Cup is now just over six weeks away and earlier this month former Egypt international Mido had said the issue had the potential to ‘destroy’ the national team.

Egypt’s off-field distractions are likely to end soon, however, according to a spokesman from leading UAE-based intermediary service HCT Sports Management.

“In order to avoid friction within the squad in the lead up to the World Cup, an informal settlement between the parties, perhaps including the payment of damages, rather than this proceeding to a more formal means of dispute resolution, will likely be reached,” the spokesman told Sport360.
