Manchester United slumped to their seventh defeat of the Premier League season as they were beaten at Brighton 1-0.

Pascal Gross scored the only goal of the game in the 57th minute.

Here, we rate the performances of United’s players.

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1)

David De Gea 6 – : Was kept busy in the first half and made a couple of fine saves. Can see why he’s the club’s best player for four of the last five seasons.

Matteo Darmian 4 – : Average at the back and ineffective going forward. Didn’t make the most of a rare start.

Chris Smalling 6 – : Didn’t put a foot wrong. On one of his good runs of form. Now for the other shoe to drop…

Marcos Rojo 5 – : Made several clearances and was unfortunate that the ball had just crossed over the line before his block. A little rash with his tackling.

Ashley Young 4 – : Could’ve done better to keep Anthony Knockaert under wraps. Delivery was lacking going forward.

Marouane Fellaini 5 – : Strong in the air and kept possession well. Couldn’t make a mark on the game though.

Nemanja Matic 6 – : Passed the ball better than anyone but didn’t have much to work with in terms of movement ahead of him.

Paul Pogba 4 – : Another disappointing display. Not on the same page as his team-mates and became more frustrated as the game went on.

Juan Mata 5 – : Was busy as ever but try as he might, couldn’t make this United side tick.

Marcus Rashford 4 – : Inexplicably failed to find Martial who was in acres of space in the middle of the box in the first half and never recovered from that apart from a neat one-two at the death.

Anthony Martial 6 – : Missing in the first half, much better in the second. A few bright moments but lacked an end product.

SUBS:

Jesse Lingard 5 – : Replaced Fellaini and had a great chance in the closing stages that he put wide.

Luke Shaw 5 – : Introduced at left-back and offered a bit more energy and drive down that side.

Scott McTominay – N/A: Came on for Rojo in the 76th minute.
