In his new book ‘Pep Confidential’, Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola admits he could see himself in charge of Manchester United in the future.

The fly-on-the-wall account of his first year in charge at Bayern documents the moment Guardiola was first mooted as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor at a meeting with the Scot in 2012.

Guardiola chose Bayern instead but now claims he can picture himself in the Old Trafford dugout.

“I like this atmosphere. I could see myself coaching here one day,” writes Guardiola.

“Sir Alex spoke quickly, so sometimes I have a problem understanding him,” said the Spaniard of his meeting with the United legend. “That’s why maybe I didn’t understand if I received an offer or not!”

David Moyes eventually succeeded Ferguson, only to be sacked a year later and replaced by current incumbent Louis van Gaal.

"I think all managers would like to one day manage one of the biggest teams in world football just like any ambitious player would like to play for one of the biggest teams in the world.  

"Pep sets his teams up to win by possession football which has given him the reputation he has today. At United the tradition is to always attack and have two quality wingers but times are changing and clubs that don't adapt will be left behind so we would obviously welcome a winning manager with a proven track record like his.  

"There is no doubting his quality but with his contract due to expire in 2016, LVG will still have a year to go. I don’t see United firing LVG or asking him to step down. We have a proven winner now and he has set the base for what are sure to be exciting times. 

"Ryan Giggs is being groomed to take over however it might be too soon and would like to see him manage a lower side and get a lot more managing experience. 

"Having said all that, LVG did leave the blueprint and foundations for guardiolas successful Barcelona side.
