Lionel Messi added two more trophies to his overwhelming collection on Monday after he was awarded the Pichichi prize for scoring the most goals (34) in La Liga and the Di Stefano trophy for being the best player of last season.

The Argentine scored twice on his return from an arm injury in the 3-2 defeat to Real Betis at the Camp Nou on Saturday.

Speaking at the awards ceremony in Barcelona, the 31-year-old said he is relishing the competitiveness of La Liga this season.

“It’s good that the league is more competitive than ever, nothing is easy, anyone can beat anyone and I hope it continues like that for some time,” Messi said.

“I am always more interested in the importance that goals have rather than how good they look.”

Just one point separates the top four in La Liga after 12 matches with Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Deportivo Alaves tied in second place with 23 points.
