Lionel Messi is in line to break a new record on Sunday night.

Should, as expected, Barcelona‘s iconic No10 feature against Girona in La Liga (22:45 kick-off), he will smash the record for the most amount of appearances by a foreign player in Spanish football’s top-flight.

According to Marca, Messi, who has made 422 outings in the league, is set to surpass former Blaugrana team-mate Dani Alves, who notched up 422 La Liga matches for Sevilla and Barca.

423 is set to be the new magic number for Messi, who is of course also the top goalscorer in La Liga history with 386 goals to his name.
