Thierry Henry has agreed to become the manager of Bordeaux, with the former Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal, and Barcelona star now awaiting a final decision from the Ligue 1 club’s owners, according to Goal.

If confirmed, the Frenchman will replace Gus Poyet, who was suspended on Friday after criticising the club for their transfer business this summer.

Ex-Germany and USA boss Jurgen Klinsmann, and Laurent Blanc, who previously won the league title with Bordeaux, were also linked with the role, but Henry has emerged as the preferred choice.

Henry, currently an assistant coach for Belgium as well as a pundit for Sky Sports, has reportedly sought assurances from the club regarding transfer funds, as well as sounding out former Bordeaux staff to get a clearer idea of the club’s situation.

He has also reportedly approached Gilles Grimandi, a former teammate at Arsenal, to be his assistant.

Ex-Gunners boss Arsene Wenger backed Henry for the job last week, saying his former charge “is intelligent and has the qualities” to make the step up to management
