So who makes up this week’s top five?

1) MANUEL NOLITO (Celta de Vigo) – 8.45

Former Barcelona striker Nolito showed his previous employers exactly what they missed out on after the Catalans turned down the chance to re-sign him in the summer. The twice-capped Spain striker dominated the game and his chip for the first goal laid the foundations of a 4-1 rout.

2) IAGO ASPAS (Celta de Vigo) – 8.38

On a night when Barca were left in a daze by Celta’s dazzling display, Iago Aspas struck twice to put his disappointing spells at Liverpool and Sevilla to bed. Celta now sit second in La Liga on points difference to Real and if their strikers stay fit, there could be a new horse to back in the race.

3) IMANOL AGIRRETXE (Real Sociedad) – 8.37

Real Sociedad earned a first win of the season in emphatic style with striker Imanol Agirretxe scoring a hat-trick. In an opportunist performance the former Bilbao forward tormented Granada with sniping runs and was quick to sieze on several of the defender’s mistakes.

4) KARIM BENZEMA (Real Madrid) – 8.27

Real Madrid coach lauded Karim Benzema’s positional play after scoring his sixth goal in five games to help Los Blancos to a 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao. The Frenchman has scored in every game for Real this term and looks set to be a key player in their title charge this year.

5) SERGIO ARAUJO (Las Palmas) – 7.70

La Liga new boys Las Palmas caused the upset of the round, beating Sevilla 2-0. Despite not getting on the scoresheet Argentinian striker Sergio Araujo was instrumental in both goals and his energy for the full 90 minutes was a sight to behold.
