Barcelona and Real Madrid have been kept apart in the semi-final draw for the new-look Spanish Super Cup, which will be held for the first time in Saudi Arabia in January.

The traditional two-legged clash between the reigning La Liga and Copa del Rey winners at the start of each Spanish season has been revamped and will now feature four teams and be played mid-season.

In the semi-final draw for the inaugural tournament, La Liga champions and current leaders Barcelona were paired against Atletico Madrid in a match that will take place on January 9 at King Abdullah Sports City stadium.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, will face Copa del Rey holders Valencia in the first semi-final at the same venue the day before.

The final will be held on Sunday, January 12.

Saudi Arabia will stage the Super Cup for the next three years, the Spanish football Federation (RFEF) announced on Monday.
