Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu insists the La Liga champions are still a competitive force without the injured Lionel Messi.

The Argentine superstar will miss the upcoming matches against Inter and Real Madrid after suffering a fractured arm during the 4-2 win over Sevilla on Saturday.

Speaking about the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Bartomeu said: “Messi will be out for however long he needs to be.

“Without Leo we are still competitive, but the important thing is to move forward.

“We have to win, of course, and prepare ourselves. The players are conscious of where they are.”

The 31-year-old has scored 12 goals and provided eight assists in 11 matches in all competitions this season.
