With the conclusion of the 2017/18 La Liga season, we’re handing out of end-of-season awards and this time we look at the goal of the season.

GOAL OF THE SEASON

Marco Asensio – Real Madrid v Las Palmas

From top to bottom La Liga is the most skill-rich league in Europe, so the goal-of-the-season award is regularly stocked with stunners.

Inevitably, choosing one is tough but Asensio’s rocket against Las Palmas edges it for 2017/18.

Asensio has a reputation for only scoring screamers, but his 30-yard pile driver was a venomous blend of technique, precision and ambition.

A Toni Kroos free-kick from the right is punched clear by goalkeeper Raul Lizoain and Asensio, just a touch to the left, unleashes a left-foot piledriver which almost slices a defender’s head off en route to the top corner.
