Virgil van Dijk hailed the Netherlands’ belief as his last minute equaliser fired them into the last four of the Nations League after their thrilling 2-2 draw with Germany.

Holland will now join England, Portugal and Switzerland at next summer’s finals after scoring twice in the final six minutes in a dramatic finish.

The Dutch sealed the point they needed to move above the French and claim top spot in Group A1 thanks to van Dijk’s 90th-minute strike, which came five minutes after Quincy Promes had scored the visitors’ first.

Already-relegated Germany had gone 2-0 up early on at Schalke’s Veltins Arena, with Timo Werner and Leroy Sane netting in the ninth and 19th minute respectively.

The 27-year-old said it was “a fantastic feeling” to finish top of Group One ahead of the likes of France and the Germans.

“We should all be proud of ourselves. I know I am,” he said.

“We worked so hard every game and to get rewards for that is fantastic.”

“If we can win the Nations League, fantastic, but we all want to make sure we’re at the European Championships and do very well there to make our country proud,” he added.
