Bayern Munich sent even more records tumbling as they opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga on Sunday.

A 5-1 win over Borussia Dortmund saw Pep Guardiola's men assert their authority on the Bundesliga with their eighth straight win since the start of the season, equalling a club and league record with goals from Thomas Muller (2), Robert Lewandowski (2) and Mario Gotze.

Lewandowski's eighth and ninth goals in his last three Bundesliga appearances was a new record, with the Poland international striker joining Gerd Muller and Christian Muller as the third player to have 12 goals after only eight games of the season.

The only consolation for Dortmund was a goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, which meant he extended his record of having scored in each of Dortmund's first eight games of the season, netting in his last 10 league games including the last two from last season.

With Bayern winning again, the chasing pack once again slipped even further behind with third-placed Schalke going down 3-0 at home to Cologne and Bayer Leverkusen held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Augsburg.

Anthony Modeste, Yannick Gerhardt and Simon Zoller all scored for Cologne at the Veltins-Arena while an own goal from Bernd Leno helped Augsburg snatch only their fifth point of the season at the BayArena, where Hakan Calhanoglu missed a penalty.

Looking ahead, Bayern can set a new league record of nine straight wins from the start of a season when they travel to Werder Bremen after the international break.
