Borussia Dortmund went top of the Bundesliga last night, ahead of Bayern Munich on goal difference after beating Hertha Berlin 3-1.

Mats Hummels headed the hosts in front in the first half before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added a second early in the second half. Salomon Kalou pulled one back for Hertha, but their former forward Adrian Ramos sealed Dortmund’s win and place at the top of the Bundesliga in stoppage time.

With two wins, eight goals scored and none conceded, Dortmund had made a flying start to the season. Shinji Kagawa showed some of his new-found confidence to burst into the area and deliver a cross for Hummels to head the hosts in front.

A second arrived early in the second half with Matthias Ginter revelling in the freedom his new wide role set up Aubameyang, who supplied an easy finish.

Dortmund failed to add to their lead and it nearly cost them dearly as Kalou brought the Old Lady back into the game, turning the ball in from a borderline offside position.

They managed to grab a third in stoppage time with forward Ramos putting the finishing touch.

There was more disappointment for Borussia Monchengladbach as they were beaten 2-1 by Werder Bremen.

Aron Johansson gave the hosts the lead from the spot but Gladbach drew level just before half-time through Lars Stindl only for Jannik Vestergaard to restore Bremen’s lead in the second half.
