1) RAUL ALBENTOSA (MALAGA) – 7.52
Malaga started the New Year in style with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over high-flying Celta Vigo, and Albentosa was the star of the show. The centre-back, who is on loan at the La Rosaleda club from Championship side Derby County, scored his team’s second goal of the game and helped the hosts keep a clean sheet and ensure steady progress this term.
2) IVAN RAMIS BARRIOS (SD EIBAR) – 7.50
The veteran former Mallorca defender was a strong presence for Eibar as the Basque side claimed all three points away to Real Betis. Barrios, who can operate in a number of positions across the backline and enjoyed a three-year spell at Wigan, was a calming influence as Eibar moved up to eighth in the table – just one point off a Europa League place.
3) ADALBERTO PENARANDA (GRANADA) – 7.48
Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Penaranda scored what turned out to be the winning goal as Granada took a giant step away from safety with a win over Sevilla. The Venezuelan forward is on loan at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes from Italian side Udinese and the 18-year-old has been in clinical form already, netting four goals in La Liga.
4) ANDER CAPA (SD EIBAR) – 7.38
23-year-old Capa scored the opening goal, his first of the campaign for Eibar, in their 4-0 rout of Real Betis in Sevile. The tricky winger has been a key part of Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side this term and has impressed with his ability to operate in both defence and midfield.
5) BRUNO SORIANO (VILLARREAL) – 7.11
The 31-year-old struck an injury-time penalty as Villarreal claimed a last-minute 2-1 win at Deportivo La Coruna and continued their surge towards Champions League football next term. Bruno hit both goals for the Yellow Submarines either side of a Luis Alberto equaliser for the hosts, to take his tally to six for the season – operating from his favoured deep-lying midfield role.
