Manchester United recovered from their first defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by beating Chelsea 2-0 to advance to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Ander Herrera opened the scoring in the 31st minute of their 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Monday night as he headed home a fine cross at the far post from Paul Pogba.

The Frenchman then got on the score sheet himself on the stroke of half-time with Marcus Rashford whipping in the delivering for him to nod past Kepa Arrizzabalaga.

Chelsea were unable to threaten United’s goal sufficiently and suffered another setback as the pressure piles on manager Maurizio Sarri.

Here, we rate the Chelsea players.

STARTING XI (4-3-3)

Kepa Arrizzabalaga 4 – Had a shaky moment when closed down by Rashford and could’ve done better to stop the second goal.

Cesar Azpilicueta 5 – Well beaten in the air by Pogba for the second goal. Good in attack though, setting up Gonzalo Higuain with a great cross.

Antonio Rudiger 5 – Was also culpable for Pogba’s goal, failing to pick up the Frenchman’s run. Good on the ball.

David Luiz 4 – A liability at the back. Slow to cover for Marcos Alonso and looked dodgy every time an aerial ball was launched in. Good free-kick tested Sergio Romero.

Marcos Alonso 3 – A weak link that United targeted. Rashford consistently got the better of him. At fault for both goals.

N’Golo Kante 4 – Had a poor game. Can’t fault him for commitment but was ineffective in attack and defence.

Jorginho 4 – When he’s off his game, the whole team is. A poor pass success rate of 86.4 per cent by his standards. Had the most touches but failed to direct play.

Mateo Kovacic 4 – Speaking of the ineffective, Kovacic seems to embody the very concept at Chelsea. A nothing performance again. At least he’s consistent.

Pedro 6 – Tested Romero with a volley in the first half. Threatened down the right but was replaced before the hour mark.

Gonzalo Higuain 5 – Should’ve at least hit the target with a header from Azpilicueta’s cross. Lacked pace and service.

Eden Hazard 5 – Few neat touches and drew some fouls but didn’t create any chances.

SUBS

Willian (58′) 4 – Skied a free-kick after his introduction.

Ross Barkley (71′) 5 – Created a half-chance for Higuain and offered more drive.

Davide Zappacosta (82′) N/A – Didn’t get involved in the closing stages.
