The boot with which Mario Goetze struck the World Cup-winning goal this year has raised €2m (US$2.45m, Dhs8.99m) for the German charity event “A Heart for Children”, the organisers revealed on Saturday. 

The 22-year-old Bayern Munich star donated to the charity the left boot with which he scored the only goal, in extra-time, aginst Argentina and seal Germany’s fourth World Cup title in Brazil.

All of the money will go to the German charity which helps disadvantaged children.

“That is overwhelming, I would have never dreamed of such a figure,” Goetze told German daily Bild.

“Two million is such a huge sum, the good thing is that it’s for a good cause and not just for a boot.”
