Former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has extended his contract at hometown club Feyenoord by another season.

The 34-year-old, who won 102 caps for Holland, returned to his first professional club in January following a 14-year absence.

Van Persie scored five goals in 12 Eredivisie games on his return and has now agreed to prolong his stay.

A statement on Feyenoord’s official website read: “Robin van Persie has agreed to add one more season to his playing career at De Kuip.

“The club recently made it known through technical director Martin van Geel, head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst and others that Feyenoord wanted to keep hold of the striker.

“The 34-year-old has now said that he would like to play for one more season.”
