Neymar will have surgery on his broken metatarsal at the end of the week.

The world’s most expensive player suffered the injury during Paris St Germain’s win over Marseille on Sunday, leading to three days’ worth of speculation over how it would be treated.

The French Ligue 1 club have tonight announced that Neymar, who also has a sprained ankle, will go under the knife in his native Brazil later this week.

A club statement on the official website read: “In accordance with the player, it has been decided that Neymar Jr will undergo surgery in Brazil at the end of this week. He will be operated on by Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar, accompanied by Professor Saillant, representing PSG.”
