Harry Kane, Lionel Messi, and Edinson Cavani among European leagues’ top scorers

14:23 28/02/2018

Lionel Messi is joined by Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski, and Edinson Cavani as the familiar names topping the scoring charts in Europe’s top five leagues.

The surprise name joining this quartet of strikers is Ciro Immobile, with the Lazio striker in sublime form that makes him the favourite to end the Serie A season as top scorer. He’s five ahead of closest competitor Mauro Icardi.

Messi has 22 goals, two more than Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez, with the race for La Liga’s top scorer down to being between the two of them despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s resurgence.

Kane, of course, is in a tight race for the Premier League Golden Boot, with his 24 goals just one more than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah while Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero has 21.

In France, Edinson Cavani was being run close by his PSG teammate Neymar, but the latter’s injury means it’s unlikely anyone will catch the Uruguayan, who’s currently on 24 goals, like Kane.

Similarly, Robert Lewandowski looks to have the Bundesliga race sewn up, with his 20 goals seven more than the next-highest – and that’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who’s since left for the Premier League.
