Breaking down Neymar’s inspiring performance for Barcelona in historic Champions League comeback against PSG

Back in March Neymar stole the show as Barcelona stunned Europe by completing an historic Champions League comeback against Paris St Germain.

The Brazilian striker, who inspired the Catalans to the 6-1 victory they needed to overturn a 4-0 first-leg defeat and reach the quarter-finals, is now seemingly on the verge a move to PSG.

With a world-record 222million euro (£198.5million) transfer in the offing, Press Association Sport looks back at that remarkable performance at the Nou Camp.

FANTASTIC FREE-KICK

Barca had done their best to fight back against the plucky Parisians but with seven minutes remaining they were 5-3 down on aggregate and heading out of the last 16 with their heads bowed.

Step forward Neymar. The 25-year-old was chosen to take a free-kick from the left-hand corner of the box and, from fully 25 yards, he deftly whipped the ball beyond Kevin Trapp for 4-1 on the night.

PSG PAY THE PENALTY

Luis Suarez was determined to help Barca follow through and grab the goal that would at least level the tie – even if PSG were to progress on the away-goal rule anyway.

He went down in the box under pressure from Marquinhos and rather than give the ball to Lionel Messi, who had notched an earlier spot-kick, he asked Neymar to take the penalty, which was duly converted to inspire a nerve-racking finale.

SUPER SET-UP FOR SERGI

Barca, scenting the most unlikely of triumphs, threw everything at their scrambling French opponents and were rewarded for their determined approach in stoppage time.

Fans of both teams in the packed Nou Camp held their breath when Neymar swept a cross from the left into the path of the onrushing Sergi Roberto, who clipped home to spark wild celebrations.
