Many people have doubted why Liverpool have forked out £10 million for Belgium striker Divock Origi from Lille on a five-year deal.

The main reason being that he won’t replace Luis Suarez, but who could?

The 19-year-old striker, who showed signs of being a fine footballer in Brazil, could prove to be a special signing for the Reds when he returns on loan from Lille in 2015.

Suits the style

Origi’s physique speaks for itself. He is tall, muscular and extremely fast. These are the three natural attributes that any striker hopes to be blessed with. The menacing Belgian is direct when in possession and his explosive acceleration can help him get around the outside of defences to create chances.

Also, Origi isn’t limited to the number 9 role that is expected from a striker of his build. He can also play in the wing-forward role of a 4-3-3, as he did last season for Lille.

This versatility will be a strong asset for Rodgersm who frequently used 4-3-3 last season as it suits a rapid front line and, alongside, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge, Origi will find himself in familiar company.

Fountain of youth

At the age of 19, the striker is certainly one of the hottest prospects in European football. His best years are ahead of him and another year playing regular football for Lille will do him the world of good.

It was easy to see that he was growing in confidence every time he featured in this summer’s World Cup, so hopefully this form continues nto next season.

Whereas Liverpool’s other new forward, Rickie Lambert, 32, only has a season or two (at a push) of top flight football left in him, Origi will be returning to Liverpool at the perfect time.

Belgian team-mate Jan Vertonghen has commented on Origi’s coolness and composure which is encouraging for a pressurised youngster.

“He plays like someone on the streets,” The Spurs defender claimed. “He feels no pressure”.

It is crucial that you have the confidence as well as the ability to perform at the top-level and you can see that the young forward certainly has both qualities.

Belgium’s happy hunting ground

Belgium have an abundance of bright talent that are brimming with confidence in the Premier League.

The likes of Eden Hazard, Adnan Januzaj and Romelu Lukaku have been revelations, while Kevin Mirallas and Vincent Kompany have taken to the league like a fish to water.

International compatriot Simon Mignolet’s presence at Liverpool will help him settle and it seems like the Premiership is the perfect surroundings for Belgium players to shine.

Professional pedigree

The Belgian has professional football running through his blood. His father, Mike, is a former Kenya international and several of his uncles have played professionally in Kenya.

Meanwhile, his cousin, Arnold, is a goalkeeper for Norweigan side Lillestrom.

This means Origi should be offered good advice when in need of that arm around his shoulder when things don’t quite go his way and the English red-tops are on his case.
