Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic will join Inter Milan on a free transfer in the summer when his current contract expires.

The Serie A side announced on Wednesday that the centre back had agreed a deal with the club.

However, Inter have not revealed how long the contract is that Vidic has signed with them.

Speaking about the transfer, Inter’s president, Erick Thohir, told the club’s website he was delighted to have secured the Serbian’s services.

"Vidic is a world-class player,” said Thohir.

"I'm extremely happy to have completed this deal to bring Nemanja to Milan.

"He's one of the world's best defenders and his qualities, international pedigree and charisma will be an asset to the team and help bring through our younger players.

"He will bring added value to the club and is another piece of the great Inter side we are building.”

Vidic’s move to Inter comes as no real surprise after he announced in January that he would be ending his eight and a half year stay with United.

The 32-year-old enjoyed a great amount success after joining the Premier League champions from Spartak Moscow for £7million in 2006.

He made over 200 appearances for United, winning five Premier League titles and captaining the side for four years.
