Sergio Aguero says Manuel Pellegrini has given Manchester City the motivation to fulfill their dream of more trophies.

After a decade in European football and only an Intertoto Cup to his name, the Chilean boss celebrated his first major trophy with the club’s 3-1 League Cup win over Sunderland.

And with City also in contention for the Premier League and FA Cup, Aguero has high hopes of a domestic treble in Pellegrini’s debut campaign.

“I’d love it and I think we can aim for that,” he said. “I’m pleased as it’s the first trophy for Manuel.

“We adapted quite quickly to his way of playing and I’m pleased as he’s given us a lot of guidance. Every manager is different, and with Manuel what he does is he talks a lot to all of us and treats every player the same – this is important also. He says things to motivate us and that’s good.”

Winger Jesus Navas agreed as he added: “It’s his way of working, his integrity, his ability to get the best out of every player in every game, that’s the key thing.

“He knows what the team needs at every moment and especially how to use the football, and that’s important for us.”

Pellegrini certainly got the best out of his players at Wembley as City overturned a 1-0 deficit with a commanding second-half show.

“What happened last year in the FA Cup final with Wigan, we didn’t want to repeat that,” added Aguero. “Fortunately we got the win, the club needed it and the players too, so we’re delighted.

“I felt fine. It was my first game since the [hamstring] injury. I am happy to be back, obviously there’s always that worry when you come back that there’s no reaction, but it all went fine.”

With 26-goal striker Aguero back, City will face Wigan in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday in optimistic mood.

Sunderland visit Hull as they look to bounce back from defeat and book a Wembley return.

Captain John O’Shea said: “The boys who haven't played in an occasion like this will have learned so much from it. The FA Cup has been good for us this season and we hope it will be again.”
