Euro 2016 Talking Point: Antoine Griezmann penalty gives France half-time lead against the run of play

Euro 2016 top scorer, Antoine Griezmann, slotted away a France penalty with aplomb to give them the lead at half-time against Germany in the semi-finals.

Bastian Schweinsteiger handled the ball inside the box in an attempt to block Patrice Evra’s header from a corner-kick, prompting the referee to point to the spot.

The goal came against the run of play as Germany dominated possession throughout the first half.

Schweinsteiger’s error however, gave France the advantage and put them in a great position to go on and win the game to progress to the final.

The debate goes on over whether or not it was indeed a penalty. Schweinsteiger didn’t appear to physically try to handle the ball but there’s no doubting that his hand was in an unnatural position and blocked Evra’s header.
