Euro 2016 Player of the Day: France’s Dimitri Payet

A quite perfect performance from Dimitri Payet. Didier Deschamps was more than vindicated after certain sections questioned picking the West Ham playmaker ahead of Manchester United’s Anthony Martial.

But that was more than justified well before his stunning late winner.

Despite coming up against a resilient Romanian defence, Payet was a constant threat, a magician with the tricks up his sleeve to unlock their back line.

His link-up with striker Olivier Giroud was almost telepathic and that dynamic could prove pivotal for France going forward in this tournament.
