The Fantasy Premier League season is back following a much-needed breather provided by the international break. With teams barely afforded a pre-season, the start to the campaign has been wildly unpredictable.

But now that players have had more time to settle in at their clubs or regain match sharpness while on international duty, we should be in calmer waters.

We have a bit more data to work with as well and hopefully that’ll help us make the right decisions.

Here are a few tips to help guide you through Gameweek 5.

CAPTAIN – HARRY KANE | TOTTENHAM | 10.6M

Tottenham are extremely popular in FPL at the moment thanks to their rip-roaring start to the season. Harry Kane and Heung-min Son [9.1m] are both the highest-scoring players among forwards and midfielders respectively. However, it’s the South Korean who is more widely owned.

The explosive winger has been rampant in front of goal but Kane remains the focal point of a flourishing attack that still has plenty of good fixtures to come. His 44-point tally is just one behind his team-mate and his underlying stats are superior.

Kane has 19 goal attempts to Son’s 10 and twice as many shots inside the box [14 to 7]. West Ham have been surprisingly formidable in defence this term, conceding the fewest goals among sides who have played four games. Kane’s stats make him the more likely option to deliver against them.

ALTERNATIVE

HEUNG-MIN SON (9.1m) is naturally the other option that makes the most sense. He has the added bonus of bagging more points for goals or clean sheets as a midfielder and is 1.5m cheaper than Kane.

BOLD CHOICE

TIMO WERNER (9.3m) has been a disappointment so far but with Christian Pulisic and perhaps even Hakim Ziyech coming into the fold this weekend, his supply line should enjoy a nice boost.

ONE TO GET

JACK GREALISH | ASTON VILLA | 7.1M

It may feel a little like chasing points after he bagged two goals and three assists in that stunning thrashing of Liverpool, but what’s not to love about Jack Grealish this season? Aston Villa look rejuvenated by a few clever additions to the squad. Grealish was one of the best chance-creators in the game last term but didn’t have enough quality around him to really excel. The arrivals of Ross Barkley and Ollie Watkins changes that dramatically, as does a fully-fit John McGinn.

ONE TO AVOID

JORGINHO | CHELSEA | 5.2M

Frank Lampard is a fan of Mateo Kovacic and may choose to deploy him alongside N’Golo Kante at times. That means Jorginho’s place may not always be so certain. His biggest appeal in FPL terms is that he stands over all their penalties – despite the best efforts of some of his team-mates. Chelsea have won four penalties in four games and he’s put away three. A player reliant on such a streak of penalty decisions can’t sustain his output.

BARGAIN BUY

RHIAN BREWSTER | SHEFFIELD UNITED | 4.5M

Rhian Brewster proved his pedigree with Swansea City in the Championship last season, scoring 11 times. The Liverpool loanee averaged 168.33 minutes per goal and gives Sheffield United much-needed firepower up front. From an FPL perspective, he is great value at just 4.5m and should enable you to add that extra premium option to boost your midfield where several big-hitters reside.
