Man United v Liverpool: Paul Pogba out but David De Gea trains ahead of big clash

Manchester United will have to take on a high-flying Liverpool side on Sunday without midfield star Paul Pogba but David De Gea may start between the sticks.

The Red Devils host the Premier League leaders at Old Trafford and are desperate for a result as they languish in the bottom half of the table.

Liverpool boast a perfect record in the league this season, winning all of their eight matches so far. United would be delighted to bring that streak to an end.

Pogba’s unavailability was confirmed when he didn’t appear for training on the eve of the clash against Liverpool but De Gea did take part in the session and seemed unimpeded.

The keeper was forced off the pitch on international duty with Spain, reportedly with a groin injury.

Also back in full training was summer recruit Aaron Wan-Bissaka as was Anthony Martial.

Given United’s struggle in front of goal since the Frenchman’s injury, a return to action against Liverpool would be a significant boost for the home side.

Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard and Timothy Fosu-Mensah trained separately, away from the rest of the players, as they continue their rehabilitation.

Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson made an appearance at the training session before watching the U18s in action against Middlesbrough.
