Eric Bailly is banned for Manchester United’s Premier League trip to Newcastle, but Alexis Sanchez is pushing to feature for the first time since November.

Bailly begins a three-match ban after being sent off against Bournemouth, while fellow centre-backs Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo are absent through injury.

Matteo Darmian will be the back-up to Victor Lindelof and Phil Jones.

Sanchez is back training after a hamstring injury and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed he will be involved in the north-east. The caretaker United boss expects Marcus Rashford to be available despite limping off on Sunday.

Provisional squad: De Gea, Romero, Grant, Dalot, Darmian, Valencia, Shaw, Young, Jones, Lindelof, Fred, Gomes, Matic, Pereira, Herrera, McTominay, Pogba, Lingard, Fellaini, Mata, Rashford, Martial, Lukaku, Sanchez.
