Manchester City cruised to a 3-1 victory over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The result of the Manchester derby sees the Premier League champions open up a 12-point gap on their cross-town rivals in the league standings.

Early goals in each half from David Silva and Sergio Aguero put City in the driver’s seat before Romelu Lukaku won a penalty which Anthony Martial converted to give the visitors a glimmer of hope.

However, Ilkay Gundogan added a third late on to hand United their fourth league defeat of the season.

Here, we rate the performances of the City players.

STARTING XI

Ederson – Excellent distribution but didn’t have a save to make. Poor decision to rush out to Lukaku and concede a penalty. 5

Kyle Walker – Dealt with Martial well, making three tackles and covered for Bernardo Silva. Didn’t get forward too much. 6

John Stones – Didn’t track Lukaku’s run that led to the penalty. Stepped out of defence in possession well and was efficient with his passing. 5

Aymeric Laporte – Superb on the ball and made the most passes on the night with 91. Largely cruised through proceedings untroubled. 7

Benjamin Mendy – Got forward often enough but none of his six crosses found a team-mate. Got in behind Ashley Young with ease. 6

Bernardo Silva – Continues his sensational form this season and was instrumental again, complementing his namesake and picking up two assists. 8

Fernandinho – Anchored the midfield with aplomb and was tidy with his passing. Fortunate to escape a booking after a few cynical fouls. 6

David Silva – The conductor of the orchestra once again and got the ball rolling by scoring the opener. Another superb performance from the maestro. 8

Riyad Mahrez – Didn’t play badly at all but Luke Shaw was the better of United’s full-backs. Overshadowed by his team-mates on this occasion. 5

Sergio Aguero – Only needs half a chance and that’s precisely what he scored from, powering his shot past David De Gea from a tight angle. 7

Raheem Sterling – A constant threat and had the beating of Young all night. Having gotten in on several occasions though, his decision-making let him down. 7

SUBS

Leroy Sane – Put City back on the front foot with his pace and dribbling after United halved the deficit. 6

Ilkay Gundogan – Ghosted into the box and scored the third to seal victory. 6

Phil Foden – Replaced David Silva in injury time. N/A
