Arsenal and Liverpool shared the spoils but unfortunately not the goals in a thrilling spectacle that ended 1-1 at Emirates.

After a stellar first half from the hosts it was actually the away side that went in front, James Milner capitalizing on a poor punch from Bernd Leno to sweep Liverpool into the lead.

The hosts levelled though inside the final 10 minutes – substitute Alex Iwobi threaded a fine ball through to Alexandre Lacazette and the Frenchman showed excellent composure to hold his nerve and bend beautifully past Alisson.

Here we rate the Arsenal players.

Bernd Leno – 6: Spread himself excellently to deny Van Dijk. Lucky not to concede when stuck in no-man’s land coming to punch. Not so lucky when weak parry fell to Milner. Top save from Van Dijk after.

Hector Bellerin – 7: Bombed down the right constantly to assist in attack, with Liverpool unable to shackle the Spaniard.

Shkodran Mustafi – 6: Looked predictably shaky trying to deal with the threatening runs of Liverpool’s attackers, but was generally reliable when called into action. Led Arsenal with nine clearances.

Rob Holding – 6: Had a tough time at the heart of the Arsenal defence, but threw himself into every challenge and block. Made four tackles and seven clearances.

Sead Kolasinac – 5: Struggled badly with Salah’s pace on his return to the side. But got forward and swung in several dangerous crosses.

Granit Xhaka – 7: Superb sliding tackle denied Salah a shot. Was a commanding presence as Arsenal squeezed Liverpool high.

Lucas Torreira – 6: Tenacious in Arsenal’s midfield, but faded badly in the second half as Liverpool got a grip.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 7: Looked lively, linking play beautifully. Fluffed a chance to fire Gunners ahead.

Mesut Ozil – 8: Orchestrated proceedings as Arsenal tore through Liverpool in first 45. Made four key passes – joint most on the field. Influence waned though after the break.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 6: Scuffed horribly wide when he got on the end of a lovely Arsenal move. Was involved in a lot of play, but nothing would quite fall for him.

Alexandre Lacazette – 7: Dragged a decent chance just wide of Alisson’s goal. Made up for it with a stunning finish for the equaliser.

SUBS:

Alex Iwobi – 7: Immediately injected pace – which Mkhitaryan simply doesn’t possess – into Arsenal’s attack. Great ball to Lacazette for his goal.

Aaron Ramsey – 6: Replaced the ineffective Aubameyang, but couldn’t meaningfully impact the game.

Danny Welbeck N/A: A late replacement for fatigued Kolasinac. Buzzed around busily.
