Tottenham player ratings as unlucky Michel Vorm earns an 8 but Harry Kane crashes with a 3

Liverpool made it five wins from five as they strolled to a 2-1 win at Wembley to beat Tottenham without getting out of second gear.

Georginio Wijnaldum headed the visitors in front after Michel Vorm failed to keep his effort from crossing the line, with Roberto Firmino making it 2-0 in the second half.

Erik Lamela gave Spurs late hope but his side were well beaten.

Here we rate the Tottenham players:

TOTTENHAM (4-3-1-2)

Michel Vorm – 8: Several top stops yet he gifted the visitors a crucial second by flapping and allowing Firmino a tap-in. Unlucky as he was otherwise brilliant.

Kieran Trippier – 4: A below par display today for the England man, who had very little impact. Ten of his 13 long balls failed to find a target.

Toby Alderweireld – 6: Five clearances led but he and Vertonghen were let down by flimsy full-backs. His 90.6 per cent pass accuracy led for his team and his 110 touches was 25 more than any other player.

Jan Vertonghen – 6: Tried valiantly to keep the back-line patched up but Liverpool had so much joy out wide. Three interceptions and aerials won both led for Spurs.

Danny Rose – 3: Bombed forward at every opportunity but that opened up gaps in an already rickety Spurs defence. A wayward 66.7 per cent pass success rate was a team low.

Eric Dier – 6: Combative and committed performance, but could not plug all the leaks springing up in the Spurs midfield.

Mousa Dembele – 4: Two aerials won was pretty much the sum of his efforts. For such a busy player, he was more of a passenger. Replaced on the hour.

Harry Winks – 5: Replaced the injured Alli but failed to shine or spark Spurs. Hooked with 20 minutes to go.

Christian Eriksen – 6: Probed Liverpool as Spurs grew into a first half started so well by the Reds. Three key passes but was unable to produce his usual magic.

Lucas Moura – 7: Continues to raise his profile in these early weeks of the new season. A growing presence in the game. Tortured Joe Gomez.

Harry Kane – 3: Anonymous. The star striker is clearly not 100 per cent fit and his selection at the moment is to the detriment of his team.

SUBS:

Erik Lamela – 6: Took his goal with stunning aplomb as Spurs nearly got what would have been an unjust equaliser.

Son Heung-min – 6: Looked leggy after returning from the Asian Cup triumph with his country. Should have had a penalty.

Victor Wanyama N/A: Little time to make an impact.
