Mohamed Salah arrived at training on Thursday with Liverpool‘s medical staff set to assess the groin injury he suffered during his side’s 3-0 win in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City on Wednesday.

The Egyptian winger opened the scoring before setting up Sadio Mane for Liverpool’s third goal, but was forced off just seven minutes into the second-half. He walked straight down the tunnel but returned to the bench to watch the end of Liverpool’s victory.

Liverpool play Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday, with a lunchtime kick-off meaning there is a short turnaround between the two games.

The second leg of the quarter-final is next week and as the more crucial fixture, manager Jurgen Klopp may decide there is no point in risking Salah at Goodison Park despite the high-profile nature of the Premier League clash.

After Wednesday’s game, Klopp said he wasn’t sure yet how severe the injury was.

“I hope not,” the German responded when asked if the injury was serious. “He said to me immediately after the game, ‘all fine, all good’ and we hope that’s the case.

“We have to wait for that.”
