Arsenal confident of sealing last-minute Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang deal

Arsenal are convinced they can wear down Borussia Dortmund’s resistance over Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang – and are willing to wait until deadline day to get their man.

The two clubs have been at a stand-off since Dortmund rejected a second Arsenal bid, thought to be in the region of £44million (Dh229m), with the German team holding on for approximately £60m (Dh312m).

The Gabonese hotshot was a surprise selection in Dortmund’s 2-2 draw with Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday, a match in which he was booed by his own fans.

But according to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal believe that his appearance was just a scare tactic – and that Dortmund director Michael Zorc fully intends to part ways with the wantaway striker before the transfer window slams shut on January 31.

The Gunners are confident Zorc will eventually blink and lower his asking price as the presence of Emerick-Aubameyang continues to be an unwanted distraction at the Westfalenstadion.

A hitch in the deal is thought to be Olivier Giroud’s reluctance to head the opposite way, despite his need for game time as he sets his sights on a World Cup summer with France.

The 31-year-old has a stellar record for his country – having scored 16 goals in his last 24 appearances – and continues to be preferred over his Arsenal team-mate Alexandre Lacazette, even if Gunners boss Arsene Wenger does not see it the same way.
