Liverpool player ratings – Mohamed Salah scores a 7 but Dejan Lovren gets a 4 in the Merseyside derby

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring but a Wayne Rooney penalty in 77th minute saw Liverpool held to a 1-1 draw against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp benched Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho for the Premier League clash at Anfield.

Here, we rate the Liverpool players.

LIVERPOOL

SIMON MIGNOLET: Came off his line early to clear the danger but Niasse very nearly won that race. Didn’t have much else to do but was beaten from the spot. 5

JOE GOMEZ: Delivered some good crosses into the box and could’ve scored from a header himself in the second half. 6

RAGNAR LOVREN: Was a bit clumsy with his challenges but cruised through for the most part. 5

DEJAN LOVREN: Had very little to do but gave away a needless penalty. 4

ANDREW ROBERTSON: Beat blue shirts with ease on the left on a few occasions. His delivery was lacking though despite getting into good positions. 5

JORDAN HENDERSON: Saw plenty of the ball and tried to spread play but lacked penetration and his shooting was wayward. 4

ALEX-OXLADE CHAMBERLAIN: Tidy in midfield. Showed great technique with a volley in the first half that went over. 6

JAMES MILNER: Got involved in the build up play and worked openings. 6

DOMINIC SOLANKE: Had a few loose touches when receiving the ball into feet. Didn’t offer a goal threat. 5

MOHAMED SALAH: Had the beating of Cuco Martina but Gylfi Sigurdsson offered cover for the full-back. Drifted centrally and got more joy as eventually his class shone through. An absolute peach for the opener. Continued to threaten in the second half before being replaced. 7

SADIO MANE: Didn’t get his head up quick enough when the early pass was on. Selfish play at the end of the first half when he shot wide instead of squaring it for Chamberlain or Salah, both of whom would’ve had a tap in. Seemed reluctant to pass, eager to take things on on his own and it cost the team in promising situations. 4

Dejan Lovren conceded the penalty

SUBSTITUTES

ROBERTO FIRMINO: (for Salah 67′): Didn’t make much of an impact after replacing Salah. Nearly got on the end of a Robertson cross in injury time. 4

PHILIPPE COUTINHO (for Chamberlain 78′): Had a good effort from a free-kick and looked the most likely to create something with his service into the box. 5

DANNY INGS (for Solanke 82′): Didn’t have much time to make an impact. N/A
