Manchester United march on with 2-0 win over Leicester – Player ratings and round-up

Substitutes Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini scored to maintain Manchester United’s 100 per cent start and spare Romelu Lukaku’s blushes against Leicester.

Jose Mourinho’s men made it three wins from three at the start of the new Premier League campaign as second-half replacements Rashford and Fellaini made goal-scoring contributions shortly after coming on in a 2-0 success.

United had cruised to 4-0 wins over both West Ham and Swansea in their opening two contests, but the champions of two seasons ago were more obdurate opponents and their goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel saved a Lukaku penalty eight minutes after the interval.

TWEET OF THE MATCH

STAR MAN

Schmeichel. Brilliantly second-guessed Lukaku at the penalty to produce the spot-kick save and denied Juan Mata in the first half with a flying stop that his old man, ex-United keeper Peter, would have been proud of.

A CAUTIONARY TALE

United fans are beginning to dream about another Premier League title after winning three from three, scoring 10 and not conceding in the process. Yet Mourinho’s men won their opening three fixtures of the last campaign too and ended up finishing sixth.

IN WITH THE CROWD

Multiple Olympic champion Usain Bolt has more time on his hands having hung up his spikes recently and he was in attendance at Old Trafford to witness the team he supports.

Dressed in a United hat and scarf, he would have enjoyed this victory, even if it took Mourinho’s side much longer than it usually takes Bolt to crush an opponent.
